Yukon's historic places

Dateline: January 25, 2026. Last update: February 6, 2026.

In 2004, Parks Canada created a Canadian Register of Historic Places website, a national searchable database of historic places recognized by federal, provincial, territorial and local governments. As of January 2026 it contains about 13,500 listings. However, in December 2025 it was announced that the register would be taken down in spring 2026.

This section of ExploreNorth has reproduced the pages for historic places that are in the Yukon or have a Yukon connection, with additional information and/or images added where appropriate (almost 300 photos have been added). We have also started to add other historic places that we have photos of and information about - they are identified by an asterisk (*).

Listed below are the 73 Historic Places located in the Yukon, or located outside with strong Yukon connections. The list misses a vast number of Historic Places - there are none, for example, in Atlin, Fort Selkirk, Forty Mile, Watson Lake, Old Crow, etc. Even in Dawson and Whitehorse, the list is incomplete. A "complete" list would be 3-4 times this long, but this is a good start. The walking and driving tour brochures published by the Government of Yukon, their walking tours app, and their "Sights and Sites" website, will give you hundreds more to see - they can all be accessed or downloaded here.
