An Explorer's Guide to the Top of the World Highway
The water levels on the Yukon River can change rapidly and quite dramatically, so the loading ramps are constantly being bulldozed to match them to the ferry height. Adjustable wooden ramps aren't used because the ice breakup would destroy them every Spring - even the large boat docks on the Dawson side are pulled out of the water in the Fall.
