Chief Johnson was also known as Skookum Johnson, George Johnson, and Gut Wain or Geet Wain. He was involved in the 1887 migration of several hundred Tsimshian from Old Metlakatla, British Columbia to New Metlakatla on Annette Island, Alaska, and in 1902 became the hereditary chief of the Ganaxadi Tlingit of the Raven moiety of the Tanta Kwan.
