Atlin, Sept. 6 - As a result of a clay slide in one of the tunnels of the McKee creek mine Otto Nelson, one of the operators, was killed almost instantly yesterday.
Mr. Nelson was engaged with three other men in driving a tunnel and preparing to put in the first set of timbers when a small quantity of clay slid from the top of the tunnel, striking Nelson down. His companions quickly went to his assistnce, and Nelson spoke a few words to them and then became unconscious.
He was immediately removed to his cabin, and Dr. Hogan of Atlin sent for. Although the doctor left at once in an automobile for the scene of the accident death had
claimed Nelson before his arrival.
An examination of the body of the dead man showed that Nelson's back had been broken by the weight of the earth which struck him.
Otto Nelson was a native of Sweden and has several relatives residing in this district.
Wednesday Mr. Nelson received a letter from Seattle conveying the
information that his brother residing in that city met with an accidental death there a couple of weeks ago.
