An Explorer's Guide to Mayo, Yukon

One of the interpretive signs around town. The river steamers were Mayo's connection to the outside world in the summers until the road to Whitehorse opened in 1955. The river is very shallow, which caused many problems, particularly for the sternwheelers hauling heavy silver/lead/zinc ores from the mines.
