Three longtime Yukon residents today announced final plans for the "New North Motel" located at the corner of Second and Jarvis in downtown Whitehorse.
Roy and Bev Reber and Earl Bennett, forming Combo Enterprises (Yukon) Limited, expect to open the new venture by July 15. Mrs. Reber will manage the motel, leaving her present position as secretary to the general manager of White Pass and Yukon

After 20 years in the Yukon, Mrs. Reber told The Star, they felt it was time to branch out on their own and there'll never be a better time to do it. "We certainly have enough faith in the future of this country," she said.
The two-storey structure housing 14 twin bedroom units and seven singles, is the first of its kind in the Yukon, having been built by Fabco Manufacturing in North Vancouver and is composed of a pre-manufactured precision-built units. They are being shipped up the coast on the White Pass freighter "Frank H. Brown", complete with drapes, carpeting and built in firewalls. Mrs. Reber said the units include ceramic tile floors and counter tops in the built-in kitchenettes and are much more luxurious than the Fabco units used for housing at Anvil and other northern development camps.
The motel will be set on concrete foundations on lots which have been cleared for the purpose on Jarvis Steet. The cedar-sided units have been approved by consulting engineers and meet all requirements of national and city building codes. Electric heating will be used for the year-round motel, which will be the sixth tourist
accommodation business within six blocks.
