Carcross, Y, T., April 23
On Saturday evening the 21st, inst. about forty of the business and mining men of Carcross met in the sitting room of the Caribou hotel where they soon settled down to business and the Ten Thousand Club was born to what will be known as the greatest quartz mining camp in the world.
The club has been organized for the purpose of advertising the town of Carcross, showing the people on the outside that this is one of the finest climates in the world, and induce tourist travel to this country.
The government will be asked to contribute a lot and a club house will be
erected in the near future.
Election of officers took place and those who will guide the destiny of the craft are as follows:
Hon. President, Inspector Fitz Horrigan; president, O. H. Partrige; vice-
president, S. E. Chambers; secretary, A. McIntosh; treasurer, M. J. MacGregor; executive committee, W. N. Robeson, R. J. Brittain, James Scott, Geo. Fickhardt, W. Wiesdeppe, Wert
Hansbrough aod Dawson Charley.
The following gentlemen were unanimously elected patrons of the club:
W. W. B. McInnes, governor of the Yukon territory; Robt. Lowe, member
of Yukon Council; Col. J. H. Conrad, the man whose push and energy and far-sightedness has made the camp, His Lordship the Right Rev. I. O. Stringer, Bishop of Selkirk.
Stirring addresses were made by Harold G. Beddson, traveller for Kelly
Douglas & Co. of Vancouver, B. C., J. H. Fickardt, agent of the White Pass & Yukon Route, Inspector Fitz Horrigan, R. N. W. M. P. and M. J. MacGregor of the W. P. & Y. R.
Mr. Beddeson in his speech said he was pleased to see such an enthusiastic audience and felt confident that Carcross would be a winner.
Mr. J. H. Fickhardt promised his hearty co-operation and would do everything possible to make the club a success.
During the evening A. H. Pare of Whitehorse, favored the audience with
selections on the guitar which were enjoyed and apreciated by those present.
One of the motto's to be adopted by the order will be Carcross -
To be the boss
She's not so slow,
Just watch her grow.
A meeting of the executive will be held this evening when important business will be transacted. '
Col. J. H. Conrad is expected to arrive on Thursday and will be met at
Pennington by members of the "Ten Thousand Club" and presented with an address of welcome.
