Hon. J. D. Hazen and family and Senator Thorne arrived on the Princess Sophia from Ottawa and in company
with Governor and Mrs. Black, left this morning for Dawson.
Mr. Black said to a Daily Alaskan reporter that there are two hundred men now at work on the automobile
road from Whitehorse to Dawson, and that $75,000 additional money will be spent there this season in completing the road. He also says that
he has the promise of Premier McBride that as soon as the Yukon automobile road is finished to Whitehorse, he will secure an appropriation
for its continuance through British Columbia. In that case it will only be necessary for the Alaska Road Commission to build from Skagway to
Summit and a through automobile road will be completed from Skagway to Dawson.
Such a project, he thinks, would rapidly develop the north, and within a short time thousands of people
would be going this way, both by tourist and commercial vehicles.
