First Day Covers from the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Series, 1977
Dominica
Queen Elizabeth II 1977 Silver Jubilee postage stamps
Dominica's landscape is the least disturbed in the Caribbean. Much of its pristine beauty stems from its unusually heavy rainfall - nearly 360 inches annually. Dominica has a beautiful phenomenon called "liquid sunshine," a perpetual mist so fine that it can be seen only when back-lighted by the sun. In Dominica's steep-walled valleys. waterfalls tumble into glades of rich, wet green. Giant trees stand festooned with sparkling orchids and climbing air plants.
This striking and colourful First Day Cover commemorating the Queen's Silver ]ubilee was postmarked on February 7, 1977, in Dominica's capital, Roseau.
