Queen Elizabeth II 1977 Silver Jubilee postage stamps

    Appropriately perched atop the Cayman Islands coat of arms is a giant tortoise. When Christopher Columbus discovered the three becoming coral islands in 1503, he immediately named them Las Tortugas after the numerous turtles found roaming the sandy beaches. Located in the Caribbean Sea, this British Colony was noted for schooner building during the nineteenth century.

    To commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the Cayman Islands released this First Day Cover on February 7, 1977, in Georgetown, the capital and largest city of the islands.
