First Day Covers from the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Series, 1977
Belize
Queen Elizabeth II 1977 Silver Jubilee postage stamps
Belize - British Honduras prior to 1973 - is a land of strong contrasts.
Tucked into a corner of the Caribbean Sea on the coast of Central America, it is the sole British colony remaining on the American mainland. The land rises from coastal swamps to heavily-forested mountains. The people are a mix of Creoles, Black Caribs, mestizos, and Maya - the modern descendants of the great civilization that flourished there long before the days of Columbus.
Belize honored the Queen's Silver Jubilee by releasing this First Day Cover on February 7, 1977, at Belize City, until 1972 the nation's capital.
