About the Royal Canadian Mounted Police issue
This stamp was issued to recognize the RCMP on the 150th anniversary of its establishment in 1873.
About the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
Established as the North-West Mounted Police by an Act of Parliament on May 23, 1873, the RCMP has evolved into an internationally recognized police organization of more than 19,000 police officers, with the support of more than 11,000 civilian members and public servants. It operates from coast to coast to coast and beyond Canada's borders through international policing and peacekeeping efforts. The RCMP is present from the community level up to the provincial, territorial and federal levels. Leading up to this significant anniversary, the RCMP developed its Vision150 mandate, acknowledging the past while driving change for the future.
About the design
This stamp was designed by Réjean Myette and features a collage of imagery representing the modern RCMP organization. A mounted RCMP officer in traditional uniform stands in the foreground of this collage, acknowledging the organization's historical roots. To the officer's right is another officer in a blue windbreaker, as well as images of the RCMP's civilian members and public service employees. The collage is set against an abstract blue backdrop of binary numbers and the outline of a fingerprint, highlighting the organization's role in responding to emergencies and investigating cybercrime. The number "150" is printed in large bold font in the top right corner of the stamp, commemorating a storied legacy spanning 150 years.
