Ferries of California

Ferries of San Francisco Bay

Northern Ships and Shipping

Dateline: November 15, 2025.

The page was prompted by the discovery of two photos of California ferries in a collection of boats and ships in British Columbia that we were gifted in 2024. More additions will be made as the time and resources allow. Contributions of images or facts will be greatly appreciated. The two original photos were donated to the Marin History Museum in 2025.

The Marin was a passenger ferry built in 1909 as Requa - she was renamed after repairing fire damage in 1911. She was 97 feet long, had a gross tonnage of 101 tons, and operated until 1934.
