SEATTLE, Aug. 19. - New quartz strikes along the shore of Lake Bennett are reported by M. King, the Caribou mill man, who is in the city. He says:
"P. Scharschmidt, the editor of the White Horse Star, and several others located some property down Lake Bennett five or six miles from Bennett, a week or co ago, which appears to be the best I have seen from that district. The ledge is seven feet wide, and has been traced a considerabie distance. No assay has yet been made, but the quartz appears to be rich in gold and silver. The property is on one of the reddish iron stained
mountains along the lake.
"A strike of gold and copper of promise has been made on the west side of
the lake, four and a half miles south of Caribou. Captain Griffiths and others have located on the property. The vein is fifteen feet wide and has been traced quite a distance. Six or seven claims have been located.
"Caribou, I believe, will be quite a place if the quartz and other properties in the country turn out well."
