On Saturday afternoon last Dr. H. J. Lindsay returned from Ibex river, where he had been for the past two weeks looking after the assessment work on the Indian group of mineral claims. Charlie Swanson had charge of the rock work, and made good use of his time; for a tunnel of 21 feet in length was driven into the side of the mountain prior to the workmen's return. Jimmy Jackson and A. Allan, preceded the others by a week or month, and by the time the Doctor arrived had nearly completed a log cabin 16x18 which now presents quite an attractive appearance with its peeled logs of similar dimensions, situated as it is below the timber limit on the side of the mountain over looking the beautiful valley of the Ibex river.
A bridle trail was made part of the way up the side of the mountain and a blacksmith's forge built for sharpening tools, etc. A pack trail was also blazed and cut out down the Ibex river and up its principal tributary to within a few miles of the Pueblo mineral claim, a distance of over twelve miles, thereby establishing beyond doubt in the opinion of Dr. Lindsay, the feasibility and superiority of this route as a highway to the west of Whitehorse; for the party who returned this way found no mountain climbing beyond a few short hills near the Pueblo. Fish, game, pasture, and ideal camping grounds were to be found all the way along.
The Doctor brought back numerous samples of ore, all apparently of first
class quality, containing gold, silver and copper similar to those found last year; and some pieces of quartz showing free gold. Several new discoveries were made on the claims and, altogether, the Ibex river property may be considered to have advanced in value during the past vear. Dr. Lindsay and his associates in the group talk of continuing the development work during the ensuing autumn.
