Geologic Map of Chicken, Alaska


    This is a small section of a map in US Geologic Survey Bulletin 375, published in 1909.

The largest area on the map is Pre-Ordovican quartzite, quartz-mica, carbonaceous and hornblendic schists and crystalline limestone.

- Igneous: Granitic, dioritic and more basic rocks.

- Tertiary: Clay, sandstones, lignites, shales and conglomerates.

- Basalt.

- Devonian: Phyllites, quartzites, cherts, limstones, greenstones, slates and tuffs.

- Gold placers.

The black square below and to then left of "Chicken P.O." is the location of Chicken.
