Archie McLean and Charley Goodell arrived from the Kluane country at 4 o'clock this morning, having walked all night. When seen at his cabin by a
Star representative this afternoon, Mr. McLean spoke very encouragingly of the prospects for considerable gold being taken from Burwash creek this season.
From discovery up to 6 above the miners joined issues in the construction
of a wingdam, and all the claims are working and yielding from one to two ounces per day to the man. Bones, on discovery, is taking out big pay and will clean up several thousand dollars this season over and above the expenses of operating.
Gifford, on 1 above, had only shoveled in five hours and had cleaned up an ounce to the man.
On 23 Fox is taking out two ounces daily to the man and Martin Itchen is
doing the same thing on 29. On the latter claim a man could get three-quarters of an ounce per day in the gravel and before striking bedrock.
On all that part of Burwash above the canyon McLean says nearly every
claim is being worked, but with what success he is not able to state. He was doing assessment work on his own claim, 5 above the canyon. Goodell was working his fraction off 25.
The Bullion Hydraulic company had not begun to sluice a week ago and MecLean does not think they will sluice yet for sometime to come.
McLean and Goodell met Hamacher and Rousseau Wednesday evening at the forty flve mile point. They had been delayed two days by their horses leaving them at Little River and coming back to Tahkini.
Goodell will return to Burwash in a few days. McLean is as yet undecided
whether he will go back this year or not.
