The Victory Loan campaign came to a close on Saturday evening the 16th inst, and Whitehorse district subscribed the large sum of $71,950 toward keeping Canada in her war work. Included in this was the fine showing from our neighbor=ing town of Carcross, $5,600.
There were 119 subscribers so the average subscription exceeded $605 or about $160 for every man, woman and child in the district. The above sum is all the more creditable as it was contributed solely by individuals.
The quota allotted to Whitehorse was $25,000, and this amount was raised in two days thereby gaining one of the Governor General's honor flags. This flag is now flying from the flag staff in front of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. It is an attractive flag about 4x6 feet, having a red border and with 5 blue stripes over a white back ground, representing the five Canadian war loans, and also contains the Canadian coat of arms. The flag will likely be decorated with several crowns, a crown for each 25 per cent. over the above quota.
The local committee in charge of the campaign have received several letters from the Provincial headquarters in Vancouver, congratulating the District on
its splendid response to the Victory Loan.
For this loan Canada aimed at raising a minimum of $300,000,000 and hoped to reach the half billion mark but in this as in every other undertaking in connection with the war the people have excelled themselves and the subscription reached the enormous sum of $676,057,869.
