That the "Caterpillar" is fast proving its adaptibility to the North is again shown by the purchase of three new models by local firms.
Klondike Airways Ltd., the winter mail contractors, have purchased a
model RD-4 Caterpillar, a powerful diesel model. The new machine left on its first trip to Dawson Tuesday with a five-ton load of freight and mail. This latest addition makes three new diesel "cats" added by Klondike Airways this winter.
George Ryder's water, wood and cartage business will be greatly augmented by the addition of the Caterpillar "22" which is due to arrive from Vancouver this month, and will be used chiefly in hauling cordwood.
The Northern Airways of Carcross have also placed an order for a Caterpillar "22" to be used on the Carcross Atlin run for hauling freight.
The Northern Commercial Co. Ltd., agents for Caterpillars in the Yukon, are looking forward to a banner year in sales, according to Manager C. D. Hamilton.
