Fourth member of a well-known local family to die in the last decade, James Saborne, a resident for twenty years, suffered a fatal heart attack March 19. He was fifty-six years old.
Mr. Saborne was a painter working for the RCAF at the time of his death, and is survived by his widow, Ruth.
Funeral service was held Tuesday from Christ Church Cathedral with Rev. Canon Arthur L. Privett officiating. Cremation followed in Vancouver.
Mr. Saborne's father [James Sr.] and brother Gene had also been well-known residents here and his mother [Beatrice] died in Whitehorse just six months ago. Only other members of the family are some cousins on Vancouver Island.
A quiet self-contained family, the Sabornes were not "joiners" but had a circle of very close friends who mourn their passing. The Saborne residence is one of the landmarks of downtown Whitehorse; a neat two-storey log house behind the Masonic Lodge building, and three attractive log cabins on Lambert Steet.
The property was always brightened by carefully tended flower beds in the summer and for many friends of the couple, provided an oasis of warm hospitality.
It is understood that Mrs. Saborne, who returned from Vancouver with her sister Florence last weekend, will be leaving Whitehorse sometime in the near future.
