It was with sincerest regret that the news was received in Whitehorse
Monday to the effect that Mr. W. A. Puckett had passed away early that morning in the hospital at Long Beach, California, following the amputation of one of his legs at the knee.
The late Mr. Puckett was one of the real old timers arriving here during the hectic days of '98 and before the advent of the railroad. Previously, we are informed, he was in Atlin for a time. He was born and raised in Missouri and celebrated his 71st birthday on November 6th last.
On coming into the Yukon he first operated a roadhouse at Upper LeBarge and another later (1902), when the present Dawson Trail was constructed, at Takhini. He afterwards bought the hardware store operated here by Mr. Unsworth and from that time on up to about four years ago made his home in Whitehorse. During his long years of residence here the late Mr. Puckett and his first wife, who pre-deceased him some years ago, were deeply interested in horticulture. Their garden and greenhouses were a mass of choice blooms every year and a great credit to this community.
On account of ill health the deceased left Whitehorse about four years
ago and for sometime past had made his home in Long Beach. Whilst outside he re-married and now leaves to mourn his loss his widow, a sister and other reatives to whom sincerest
sympathy is extended in their great bereavement.
