George Matheson, well koown here where he lived most of the time for the
past several yeurs, was found dead in his canoe on Tagish bar one mile below Carcross shortly after noon Monday.
In answer to a telegram Major Snyder and Dr. Pare went to Carcross
Tuesday when the latter as coroner investigated the circumstances connected with Matheson's death. It was found that deceased had left Carcross for his camp down the lake where he was engaged in fishing, late the previous night. The boat had grounded on the bar and as the man’s clothing had been wet and then frozen, it was supposed he had stepped in the water for the purpose of pushing it off the bar, falling in which he had laid down in tne boat where he succumbed to the cold, a very fierce and cold wind having blown that night. The body was buried at Carcross.
So far as koown Matheson had no relatives in the north. A brother resides somewhere in Pennsylvania and several nephews at Brandon, Manitoba. He was trom Woodstock, Ontario, and was 66 years of age.
