Requiem mass was held last Thursday at Sacred Heart Cathedral for the late Harold [Herman] O. (Ernie) Lalonde. Father J. P. Tanguay of Carmacks conducted the rites.
A well-known and well-liked person throughout the territory, Ernie died suddenly November 14 after a heart attack. He had been working for the past several years at Midway Lodge on the Mayo Highway. He was 52 years old.
Born of French-Irish parentage, Ernie worked for many years as a mechanic in the northern parts of Canada. Before coming to the Yukon in 1954, he worked in Yellowknife, NWT and at Kitimat, B.C.
For his first year in the Yukon Mr. Lalonde was employed as road mechanic for United Keno Hill Mines, then for a year he was with the Northern Commercial caterpillar department in Whitehorse, In 1956 he went to work at Midway Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Marie, in Vancouver, and seven children.
Pall bearers ere Andy Pauch, Blake Baxter, Ken Garvice, Bud Cyr, Wilf Whitehouse and Lloyd Vamplew.
