It was with feelings of deepest regret that word of the passing of Mrs.
Edward Hensley on Friday last after a short illness, was received by the community. While not a resident of this community for a great length of time, Mrs. Hensley endeared herself
to all with whom she came in contact with. Of a sweet disposition and gracious manner, she had that facility of gaining the respect and friendship of all who enjoyed her company.
Born in Tennessee in 1883, Ella Isbella Presley first came to the North
in 1914, mushing over the trail from Seward to Iditarod, a distance of 512 miles, and taking up residence in Flat, Alaska. Leaving there in 1916, she journeyed to Sacramento, California, where she was joined in wedlock to Edward Hensley and after a short trip North settled down at Lougheed, Alberta, in 1917, farming in that district until 1922, when they moved to Francois Lake, residing there for three years and again coming north to Atlin
in 1925, After three years in Atlin they again returned to Francois Lake but again came north to Dawson in 1934, thence coming here in October of last year.
Mr. Hensley is also an old timer of the North. Coming to this country in
1901, he spent several years in and around Whitehorse, Atlin, Dawson and the Nome region.
Funeral services were held from Christ Church on Tuesday, March 25, the following pall bearers from the Masonic Order being provided: J. E. French, J. Porter, Norman Murray, J. Morrison, F. Ramsey, F. Young and G. Ryder. Rev. C. H. Jenkins conducted the service. Interment was in the Masonic section of the Whitehorse Cemetery.
Surviving the deceased besides her husband is one son, William Edward.
The entire community joints in extending their sincerest sympathy to Mr. Hensley and family in their great loss.
