A tragic fatality occurred on Tuesday afternoon when Alan Gordon, two-year-old son of Thos. Gordon, native section worker of the White Pass & Yukon Route, was drowned in the treacherous waters of the fast-running Yukon River.
The Gordon family, who are living in a tent near the company water-tank and about 50 or 60 yards from the river bank, first missed the child about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon and and shortly after a search was started by the police.
Aided by local Indians, the police searched through the woods and along the river banks for several miles below the town and at 2 p.m. on Wednesday two Indians, George Smith and Dixon John, discovered the body in the slough just below the town.
In reconstructing the fatality, it is presumed the child wandered to the high river bank, fell over and was carried away by the current before he was able to make an outcry. At the inquest death was found to be due to drowning.
