The entire community received a shock on Monday, September 18th, when Mrs. Dan Gillis passed away in the General Hospital here. Mrs. Gillis suffered a stroke on September 11th, and after a lingering unconsciousness passed peacefully away at 11:35 p.m.

The deceased was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, in 1875. Coming to
Dawson in 1898, she had a host of thrilling experiences in the Klondike Gold Rush, the Fairbanks Gold Rush and the Kantishna Stampede, having spent seven years in Dawson and six in Fairbanks and in 1922 was in Iditarod, Alaska for a time.
Mrs. Gillis was a lover of her home and was of a cheerful disposition. She will be missed by her many friends throughout the North.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband in Whitehorse, a son in San
Francisco and two sisters and a brother in Antigonish, N. S. Many friends throughout the Yukon and Alaska extend their heart-felt sympathy to the family in their great loss.
Service was held at the Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, September 21st, Father Monroe officiating. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered at the service to pay their last respects and the many floral wreaths were a tribute to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment took place in the Whitehorse Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Capt. P. Martin, W. A. Puckett, S. Coulter, J. Williams, G. Wilson and R. Small.
