Succumbing to a fatal malady, Robert Earl, pioneer resident of the
town, passed away in the Whitehorse General Hospital at 5 a.m. Monday.
"Bob" Earl was born in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, about 62 years ago. He spent some of his younger days in the coal mines near Springhill, Nova Scotia, and later at Owen Sound, Ontario, then on to New Westminster, where he was engaged in the salmon fishing industry.
He came to the Yukon about 1905 and has lived here ever since. The
deceased was in the teaming service of the late Robert Lowe for many years, and was also a familiar figure in the Commercial Hotel when Frank Dumontier was the manager.
Always of a cheerful disposition, Bob's favorite expression was "It's
Jake." He was well known and liked by all who knew him and his passing is deeply regretted.
The sympathy of the Community is extended to Mrs. Earl.
The funeral was held from Christ Church at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, Rev.
Gordon Cross conducting the services. Pall-bearers were: Cap. P. Martin, J. Kennedy, N. Murray, J. E. French, A. E. Stewart and Frank Sketch.
Interment was in the Whitehorse Cemetery.
