The following article, again showing what a Godsend the airplane is to the people of Alaska, appeared in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner of August 18:
Returning from an emergency flight to Crooked Creek, on the Toklat river,
in the Mount McKinley district, Ed. Young piloting a Pacific Alaska Airways plane and Dr. Aubrey R. Carter, arrived in Fairbanks shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Dr. Carter received a wire from Harry Liek, who was at Savage river,
Wednesday morning that Mrs. Eugene Morris was critically ill and needed medical attention immediately, explaining the nature of the case. He left here soon afterwards with Pilot Ed. Young.
Upon arrival at Savage creek they picked up Mr. Morris, who had walked
37 miles in 20 hours from Crooked creek to Highway pass, completing the trip to Savage river in an automobile. The three hopped off and landed on a bar at the mouth of Crooked creek, on the Toklat river. From there they walked ten miles to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris, arriving there at 10 o'clock Wednesday night. After a short rest Dr. Carter performed an operation on Mrs. Morris, the operation being done by candle light.
The patient was doing nicely when the doctor and Ed. Young left there
at 10 o'clock yesterday morning. They walked the ten miles back to their plane, over niggerheads and rough country, in four hours, reaching here yesterday in their plane at 4 o'clock.
Mrs. Morris was not able to be brought over the ten miles in a stretcher to the plane but is being taken care of by her husband and neighbors. Dr. Carter says if no complications set in Mrs. Morris will soon be on the road to recovery.
Mr. Morris andl his partner, A. Creiger, are mining on Crooked creek.
