Kluane Lake Viewpoint (Alaska Highway Km 1650.8), Yukon

by Murray Lundberg

Campgrounds and Rest Areas in the Yukon

This gravel viewpoint is located on Kluane Lake at Km 1650.8 of the Alaska Highway. It has no facilities, but lots of level parking, interpretive panels, and a massive sandy area to walk (the Slims River Flats). The Soldiers Summit hiking trail is across the highway.

To get down to the sandy Slims River Flats, walk south along the trail beside the highway,
then there's a rough path down.

If you like barefoot walks in soft mud as much as my dogs and I do, you'll love Slims River Flats.
The mud is also easy to avoid, though.
