My best images from The ExploreNorth Blog in 2024
by Murray Lundberg
The ExploreNorth Blog
Best images of each month from The ExploreNorth Blog
Dateline: January 6, 2024.
It's common this time of year to look back at what happened during the previous year. For me, the photos on my blog are a good way of doing that, so I decided to pick out the best photo posted each month. "Best" doesn't mean photographically - images that I'd submit to a contest - merely images that I like because they show what we were up to, and that I connect with in various ways.
In 2024, 85 posts were added to the blog, with a total of 2,541 photos. The longest post, with 79 photos, was "Steam train from Carcross to Bennett and back", added on July 3rd.
January 2024
I only posted 3 times in January, but a drive to Kluane in the hope of finding thinhorn sheep (successful) on January 5th produced 36 photos worth posting - see "A drive to Kluane - hoar frost and sheep".
February 2024
I drove into the White Pass on February 14th and shot 23 photos worth posting, including this one of Ptarmigan Point, a place I shoot a lot - see "A mid-Winter look at the spectacular White Pass".
March 2024
On March 11th I drove to Skagway and had a very productive day of shooting - see "From Winter to a snow-free hike at Skagway".
April 2024
In April a friend in Inuvik invited me to fly up, tour the Mackenzie Delta by car, then drive back to Whitehorse with him - that resulted in 10 blog posts. See "Exploring Tuktoyaktuk, NWT".
May 2024
The historic Venus silver mill on Windy Arm is collapsing, and on May 1st I had a final close look at it - see "A final visit to the historic Venus silver mill".
June 2024
For the first two weeks of June, Cathy and I took another Alaska cruise then drove up the Sunshine Coast before flying home - see "A spectacular day cruising Glacier Bay".
July 2024
On July 10th, Cathy got a call from our friend Adam, asking if I would like to join him and his son Cecil, who just turned 3, on their boat for a day on Tagish Lake. Cathy replied that I wasn't doing very well so no, but I was somehow able to intercede and the conversation soon turned to a more positive direction. It was a wonderful day - see "A day on Little Atlin Lake".
August 2024
Cathy and I booked a week at a Haines RV park in late August, but on the way down stopped to give me a day of hiking at the Haines Summit with my friend Greg - see "Hiking Tina Creek Ridge, Haines Highway", which has 43 photos.
September 2024
After a day trip to Atlin in July whetted my appetite, I returned for two multi-day trips in September, one at a friend's cabin and one with the motorhome - see "Exploring Ruby Creek and Ruby Mountain, Atlin", one of the four Atlin posts from those trips.
October 2024
I only posted twice in October and both were aurora shoots - see "The most incredible aurora in decades!", which has 57 photos.
November 2024
In November I took Andrea on a week-long road trip in Arizona, with a rented BMW 430i convertible - see "The Arizona Route 66 Museum in Kingman", one of 16 posts that resulted from the amazing trip.
December 2024
In December, 8 of the 9 posts were about the Arizona trip and the other was a historical look at Chilliwack, BC. The best image from this month's posts is this one from "From cactus park to cactus park - Organ Pipe to Saguaro".
