First Day Covers from the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Series, 1977
Queen Elizabeth II 1977 Silver Jubilee postage stamps
Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan, had been called East Bengal until 1955. Bangladesh proclaimed its independence from Pakistan on March 26, 1971, following a conflict between India and Pakistan. A humid, low-lying, alluvial region, Bangladesh is composed mainly of the great combined delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers. The country is laced with numerous streams and tidal creeks, forming an intricate network of waterways that constitute the nation's chief transportation system.
This First Day Cover honouring the Silver Iubilee of Queen Elizabeth II was issued on February 7, 1977, in Dacca, the capital of Bangladesh.
