First Day Covers from the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Series, 1977
Queen Elizabeth II 1977 Silver Jubilee postage stamps
A chain of about three thousand coral islands and reefs makes up the independent nation of The Bahamas, located in the West Indies. Only about twenty of these islands are inhabited, with approximately four-fifths of the total population living on the islands of New Providence and Grand Bahama. Understandably, the tropical beauty and mild climate of the islands have helped make tourism the mainstay of the economy.
Queen Elizabeth is commemorated on her Silver Jubilee by the Bahamian First Day Cover released on February 22, 1977. The First Day Cover was postmarked at Nassau, the capital and largest city of the islands.
